Despite being poor, poor, poor (after checking my bank account this morning, I was aghast to find that I had $8.85 to last me until next Friday…stupid medical expenses!), it has been an amazing couple of days.
Tuesday night I went out with The Kitchen Girls to karaoke at Sing Sing on St. Mark’s Place. Bex, Wicked Cool Kelly, and I got there around 7:30 and essentially relived our junior high/high school years with such standards as “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, “Don’t Le Me Get Me” by Pink, and “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot. After suffering through the weirdest music videos ever, Lou Reed Girlfriend walked in right on us in the middle of “Bitch” by Meredith Brooks.
- Bex/Wicked Cool Kelly/JJ: I’M A BITCH, I’M A LOVER, I’M A CHILD, I’M A MOTHER—
- Lou Reed Girlfriend: (opens door)
- Bex/Wicked Cool Kelly/JJ: —I’M A SINNER, I’M A SAINT! I DO NOT FEEL ASHAMED!
- Lou Reed Girlfriend: (stunned)
- Bex/Wicked Cool Kelly/JJ: I’M YOUR HELL, I’M YOUR DREAM! I’M NOTHING IN BETWEEN! YOU KNOW YOU WOULDN’T WANT IT ANY OTHER WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!
- Lou Reed Girlfriend: (falls over) (laughing) (hysterically)
We finished the night with a rousing rendition of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” (The Kitchen Girls’ anthem) before grabbing coffee and then being chased to our respective homes by a sudden and perfect New York summer storm.
As my obsession with Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab burgeons to hitherto unknown proportions, I was chagrined that I didn’t decide to order the limited edition blends of Selkie and Cancer (now unavailable to order) in addition to Lolita and Alice when someone very kindly offered to get the bottles for me! Oh happy day!
On top of that, I received a surprise postcard and a surprise package at work. The postcard of the L’Arc de Triomphe from my mother in Paris. She fell in love with Paris and wants to return with me. I forsee a free trip to Europe in the future, yes! The surprise package contained a copy of Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces from a wonderful and generous friend. (Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!) Haha! Camille Paglia may be Lou Reed Girlfriend’s lover, but Joseph Campbell is mine.
An unexpected visit from Bear was the crown on a lovely and perfect couple of days (Mercury retrograde bedamned!). Because of his work schedule, we only get to see each other once every other weekend, but he had Friday off so after I got off of work (early…I love summer Friday schedules), there was much twitterpated being-in-love-ness and cuddly snuggling (and more).
I suppose if I were an emoticon right now, it would be: ^_^
Except when it comes to disposable income, I would be: X_X I hate that eating healthy is so expensive. I also hate that my physician-prescribed diet includes fewer carbohydrates than I would like. A box of pasta lasts so much longer than a can of tuna. Egg whites and I have become very good friends. (Being as I don’t eat poultry or meat, upping the protein in my diet has been an interesting process.) I may as well just be eating money.
However, I think the diet has been working. I think. A scale would probably be a good addition, but I’m going off of the way my clothes fit and my face shape. My only complaint is that my breasts suddenly seem bigger, which is the exact opposite of what I would like. Argh.
