FANGIRL JJ COMES BACK
Today I was going to blog about literary fiction and what comprises it (and I may return to that later when I am off Cloud 9), but right now I can’t form coherent thoughts because:
You know, I’m not being hyperbolic when I say I am actually crying tears of joy. No seriously, my cheeks are wet. And if this is an April Fool’s Joke, someone at NME will pay in blood.
For those of you who know me from Livejournal (and yes, I have a Livejournal) and have known me for years would understand my ecstatic happiness. I’ve blogged about them for years. And you’ve all seen my awesome British military redcoat, yes?
Why do you think I even bought this in the first place?
You also remember photos of my office I showed you earlier?

Do you see something on this wall that might pertain to a certain band? Click on the picture for the answer!
Yes, I love them THAT MUCH. It is a deeply personal love and it’s the only band that’s ever made me feel anything. I’m not just speaking of their music (which I love); somehow, their myths, their dreams, their created fantasy of the Good Ship Albion and Arcady which was tied up with their imaginings of William Blake and the Romantic poets (incidentally, I have a tattoo on my back that reads Albion like the spine of a book because of my love of Blake, England, and the Libs), and their nearly palpable love for one another reached straight through my brain and into my heart.
I am speaking mostly of Pete and Carl, the two frontmen, who were ever and always THE Libertines. It’s hard to separate them from the band; they are The Libertines, no offense to Gary and John. They had a romance and it was hard not to be drawn into it.
Interviewer: What did you miss most about Pete?
(Peter hides under his hat.)
Carl: I don’t know. If I’m honest, then I missed having a… having a best friend who, for all his foibles, who got me. Because we just share the same dreams, and the same sense of humour, the same irony–
John: The same pants.
Carl: Very good, John. It’s just–you know when you meet someone who gets you and you get them. On the deepest level. I mean that. And…that’s something I always missed about Pete.
Interviewer: Pete, what did you miss about Carl?
Carl: Go on, say something funny. Go on.
Pete: I just missed Carl, to be honest.
I’m not even speaking of romantic love (but their love is Romantic, for my fellow Paglia and Byron/Shelley nerds). Whatever the nature of their love for each other, it’s obvious that it’s love. I’ve had intense relationships with friends that transcended the common idea of “friendship”–relationships that were more than friendly, but less than erotic or “romantic” (sometimes, the English language is inadequate). Human beings connect in so many different ways and I twigged onto the Pete/Carl romance because I understood it, because I understand what it is to love someone so intensely it almost destroys you, even if you weren’t “in love” with said person.
Of them (and of us), I’ve always thought of Wordsworth.
The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers:
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
Yes, yes, this band is dear to me, and so very precious they are.
Anyway, I promise to return to publishing posts soon.
Oh, and do you know how I got introduced to the Libertines in the first place? It’s because Harry Potter told me to. I’ll explain that another day.

Is there anywhere I can read or watch the full interview? the one where they talk about missing each other?
