Photo Friday: February 25

Yay, I managed to make it to another Photo Friday! Boo, I have shot nothing of interest this week! I have been doing a bit of food photography, but that’s because I’ve made a concerted effort to start cooking more in order to 1) stop bleeding money and 2) lose weight.

It Was So Cold Lately They Turned Blue!*

Blueberries

Vanilla yogurt with blueberries.

Unfortunately I can’t show you the EXIF data of my food photos because I’ve forgotten what they were and I didn’t upload them to Flickr, so Flickr can’t tell me either. From what I remember, this was shot with my 35mm, ISO 200 or 400, f-stop 1.8, unknown shutter, exposure bias at…-5/3, I think?

*P.S. The person who can guess this reference wins a metaphorical gold star from me.

Doshirak

Doshirak

Packed lunch! I wanted to assemble my tuna melt sandwich at working, instead of getting there and having it be all soggy and gross. Ew.

The Korean word for a “packed lunch” is doshirak (named for the “box” or tin–identical in purpose and word usage to the Japanese bento). My grandmother used to pack my lunch every morning all the way through high school (yes, I know, I know) with actual Korean food; now I make do with a low-Calorie tuna melt. (Also, hell if I know what the EXIF data is for this. I’m assuming it’s probably similar to the previous photo as lighting conditions were similar and I haven’t switched my lenses since I got the 35mm.)

White-Harp, M.D.

Doctor Harp

It's a doctor Harp!

Exposure 0.013 sec (1/80)
Aperture f/1.8
Focal Length 35 mm
ISO Speed 400

And a bonus photo! I don’t think I ever showed you guys a picture of White-Harp in her scrubs. Bear got her a set for Christmas (because he is the bestest Bear ever). Now she can be the star of her own TV show, White-Harp, M.D. (I would like you to direct your attention to the adorable bootie–singular–that she is wearing.)

That’s all! Hopefully I will have something more interesting next week.

The Sound of Music! I went through a major phase with that film, watched it ALL THE TIME. I don’t know how my mother kept from killing me.

I love Dr. White Harp! And I’m digging the new layout too, very sleek.

Um, Dr. Harp is pretty much the cutest ever!

(Also, my mom packed my lunch through high school. With pork buns and lychee jello. In a giant clear plastic bucket w/ a lid that looked like a duck. Soooo yeah.)

My wife and I pack my kids lunches everyday. We’ve been doing it since they were in Kindergarten. I’ve now got a freshman, a junior, and a graduating senior. That’s a lot of sandwiches! But every morning since the beginnin I write a quote on their lunch bag. Can be anything from Aristotle to Colonel Quaritch to something from one of the books I’ve written. My dad did the same thing for me a long time ago. My kids love it and tell me it sparks meaningful discussion around the lunch table… and the occasional argument. I’m going to miss making their lunches when they are all grown up.

This morning’s quote: “There’s an old saying about those who forget history. I don’t remember it, but it’s good.” – Stephen Colbert.

Yes… I occasionally use the iGoogle quote of the day.
