Sad Corliss

I really need to get back into the habit of drawing more often. Back in high school, I spent 6 hours a week doing art because I was in Visual Arts Conservatory. Some days it sucked pretty hard, but most days it was like therapy. It’d be nice to set aside a few hours everyday to work on art. And music. I played piano pretty much every day in high school as well. How did I find these pockets of time???? Now I barely seem to have time to exercise, let alone have hobbies.

Anyway, I found a Photoshop brush that pretty closely recreates what it’s like to sketch with graphite, so I drew a quick sketch of a sad Corliss (a character from my novel) referencing David Tennant because…everything should reference David Tennant. (Also, I seem to have forgotten how to draw on real pencil and paper. Ought to remedy that.)

Korra’s My Girl

MY REACTION TO THE LEGEND OF KORRA.

ALL THE FEELS.

ALL OF THEM.

I just…I cannot. This show. THIS SHOW. IT’S SO GOOD.

APPROPRIATE GIF IS APPROPRIATE.

Not Enough Tyrion

So I finally caught up on the first episode of the second season of Game of Thrones and my only conclusion is:

NOT ENOUGH TYRION.

Also, oh Sansa! Sansa, darling, you are my new favourite: you are smart and clever and stuck in a TERRIBLE position, but you’re a quick study and totally out-gamed Joffrey.

It’s agony waiting for the next episode! Any of you Game of Thrones fans? Did you watch the season premiere? Thoughts?

Feelings

My friend T.S. made this motivational poster of me based on a conversation we were having, and yes, I said this exact thing verbatim.

The Dilemma of a Morning Person/Anti-Night Owl Writer

I hate it when I have writing ideas and I’m motivated to write, but it’s nighttime and all I want to do is sleep. Being a morning person means that by 10PM, I have been awake for 16 hours. Vampire, I ain’t. Now if only my brain would comply and give me ideas first thing in the morning instead of right before bed…

(Of course, instead of either writing or going to bed, I spent 5 minutes jotting down this little doodle. The decisions I make…)

Near Brunnenmarkt

I have discovered Pixlr‘s retro/vintage effects maker and it has rather taken over my life, as I’m not obsessed with turning my photos into Instagram/Hipstamatic-type thingies.

This is a picture of a little shop I found on a random side street in Vienna on my way to the Brunnenmarkt.

I realise I’ve been rather remiss about blogging lately, and I know I ought to remedy this (because I have, uh, news? Nothing too major, no worries!) but honestly, I don’t have time to update during the day anymore, and when I come home, the last I thing I want to do is turn on the internet for reasons other than binge-watching British TV shows on instant Netflix. (Which I haven’t done much of lately either, being as I’ve been swamped reading for work.)

At some point I might return to form, but in the mean time, I will admit I am enjoying the blogging hiatus.

One Of These Days I Will Write Up A Long Blog Post About Why I Love Avatar: The Last Airbender.

But not today. Because today my DVDs arrived from Amazon, which means I will most likely go home, ignore the mountain of work I have, and watch the series again from start to finish, this time with commentary.

Quick Draw

My parents gave me an iPad for Christmas, so naturally I’ve been going a little app crazy. Discovered Sketchbook, which is a pretty decent drawing/painting app, except for the fact that drawing with a fingertip is hard! I haven’t done that since preschool!

Semi-Charmed Life by Nora Zelevansky

In Nora Zelevansky’s hilarious debut, Semi-Charmed Life, an Upper West Side naïf, Beatrice Bernstein, gets swept up in the seeming magical life of socialite Veruca Pfeffernoose, while ghost-writing her blog. Veruca’s glitteringly opulent world soon seduces Beatrice away from her own insular, arty family with a promise of fancy parties, travel outside Manhattan (gasp!), and one desperately cute guy. But when her new glitzy lifestyle starts to take on dark undertones, Beatrice has to decide who she is–once and for all. With her own magical touch, Zelevansky deftly explores the world of rarified Manhattan in this sparkling modern fairy tale of first love, finding one’s voice, and growing up.

I know I’ve been fairly quiet on the new adult front lately, but that’s mostly because we’ve been working, working, working with no real news to report. However! Here’s a tangible piece! When I last updated you on what we had acquired, it was title THE PFEFFERNOOSE CHRONICLES, but now it has a brand new, shiny title as well as accompanying gorgeous cover!

My colleague Vicki edited it (and I think she’s done a bang-up job). SEMI-CHARMED LIFE will be published in July 2012, and we couldn’t be more excited!

More news to come (on this, and other titles) later. We’ve been working, we swear.

The Problem With Having a Ubiquitous Name

My friend Allison emailed me this morning with the subject line “I’m concerned…”

That hyphen in my last name is a double-edged sword, man. On one hand, it causes untold administrative problems. On the other, I can be DAMN WELL ASSURED that I’m most likely the only Sarah Jae-Jones in existence. (Because I must be speshul! And yooneek!)

Not that having a hyphen prevents people from calling me Sarah Jones anyway. Sigh.
